A 24 year old fugitive,Abdulai Karim who escaped from custody in Sunyani on Monday 30th March, 2020 has been arrested by the Bono Regional Police on Monday 13th April, 2020.
According to a press release by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Bono Region, the said escapee was first arrested on 22/02/2020 by the Sunyani Police and remanded by a Sunyani Circuit Court for a series of rape and robbery cases, whilst awaiting trial, accused Abdulai Karim managed to escape from custody,fled the jurisdiction and went into hiding in the Upper East Region and Burkina Faso.
The Bono Regional Command in a bid to recapture the accused offered a reward of five5 thousand Ghana Cedis(5,000.00) for information leading to his arrest amid measures.
A team of Police Personnel on the Monday 13th April, 2020 from the Bono Regional Police acting in close Collaboration with the police several other security agencies in the Upper East Region and the Burkinable police,sucessfully recaptured the escape and conveyed him back into custody in Sunyani.
On tuesday 14th April,2020,the escapee was charged,put before court,convicted and sentenced to a total six(6) years imprisonment for the of fences of escape from lawful custody and assault on a public officer (3 years each to run consecutively).
The Bono Regional Police command would like to express its profound gratitude to all the personnel and institutions who worked tirelessly and collaborated with police,these past 14 days while the fugitive was on the run to ensure a successful operation to nab him.
