Ghanaian award winning rapper Micheal Kwesi Owusu Addo known in showbiz circles as Sarkodie has said that he is the first artiste to create a fanbase for himself and now other artistes have jumped to it.
In an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay Fm’s drive time show ‘Ekwanso Dwoodwoo’ monitored by goonlinegh.com, Sarkodie was asked to described some of his challenges he faced before being able to penetrate to the main stream with his rap music.
In his explanation the ‘Oofeetso’ crooner said, it was not easy to rap in Ghana and dominate in the main stream scene some years ago because there were folks like Ofori Amponsah, Baroski, kofi Nti, K.K Fosu and many singers so singing was what the producers was focusing on and no one of the producers he got closed to was ready to produce rap music. Until he met Doctor Duncan and Abeiku Santana Who are both radio presenters.
Sarkodie continued by saying when he met the aforementioned radio presenters they granted him a platform to showcase his rap talent and was accepted by the public, and from there he built his fanbase.
“When your own brother Doctor Duncan and yourself gave me the opportunity to rap at Adom fm and the public accepted me, i built my fanbase from there on. For the record i don’t normally talk about this, but i was the first artiste in Ghana i used the people to come into the industry. So i didn’t come to the industry through the industry gate, I used the industry platform but i used the people to dominate because there was not so many platforms for me to share my talent apart from Adom fm so i created the whole fanbase thing and now every artiste is jumping on that fanbase thing but Sarknatives started this whole thing.
