Man United Reach Agreement With Barcelona To Sign De Jong
Manchester United have agreed to pay Barcelona a guaranteed fee of €75 million (£63 million, $75 million) for Frenkie de Jong, according to The Athletic.
United are also expected to pay €10 million in add-ons (£8.47 million, $10 million).
Erik ten Hag’s top priority this summer is to sign De Jong.
They must now persuade De Jong to relocate to Old Trafford and reach an agreement with the Dutchman on personal terms.
The 25-year-old Jong is also owed a €17 million deferred salary payment from Barcelona, which is still impeding the deal.
De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for £86 million, and he has since made nearly 100 league appearances for the Catalan club.
However, Barcelona’s financial situation meant De Jong’s future was in jeopardy, with £1 billion in debt and strict controls on recruitment and spending.
De Jong was a shining star in Ten Hag’s Ajax side that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19.
