Seize and sell stray animals and invest the money into projects – Cecilia Dapaah charges MMDA

Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaa is urging various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) nationwide to enforce the sanitation by-laws by seizing stray animals.

According to her, proceeds from such arrests can be used to develop and support government projects in the assemblies.

“We have sanitation courts and I will encourage all the assemblies to take advantage of them and apply the by-laws and prosecute. We support them 110%.

“When you let your cows stray, they should seize the cows maybe if I can use that word, sell the cows and use the money and help with projects in the assemblies,” she said during a familiarization tour of the Greater Accra Region.

Madam Dapaah encouraged various assemblies to emulate the Amasaman Municipal Assembly which has taken the lead in seizing and selling stray animals which has contributed to the rise in their revenue mobilization.

“This cow, goat, sheep thing, Amansaman has the biggest record. Clement, my son, records all those things. He arrests goats and all those things and he sells them and uses the money for projects within the assembly and I will encourage, madam to do the same,” she added.

Responding to the question about President Akufo- Addo’s promise to make Accra the cleanest city in Accra before the end of his first tenure, the Bantama MP said, “I think we are on course, you see you start from step one, I am sure you are interested in that. We will always call on our head of state that he made a good call and that we are all part of the solution to the good call.

“As a minister in charge of Sanitation and Water Resources, I am happy that what we see as heaps in the town, is no more,” she added.

Meanwhile, she said her outfit is collaborating with the assemblies to replace broken dustbins to ensure proper disposal of waste.
